Rising bills due to the cost-of-living crisis is the main factor driving retirees over 50 back to work, according to new data from the Office for National Statistics published today.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has issued a set of improved UK gross domestic product (GDP) figures for April to June.

Almost nine in ten (86%) early retirees between 50 and 54 would consider a return to work as the cost-of-living crisis continues to hit their finances.

The population of England and Wales is ageing, with almost one in five (18.6%) of people age 65 and over, according to the first Census 2021 estimates.
