CFP Professional helps write new financial book
Certified and Chartered Financial Planner Lien Luu and three financial experts have written a comprehensive new book for professionals on financial services.
The book - A Practical Guide To Financial Services: Knowledge, Opportunities and Inclusion - has been written for the 'new world' of consumer duties, online risk and huge technological change.
The book covers a wide range of topics including financial advice, regulation, fintech, financial crimes and risk.
Dr Luu CFP is an associate professor at Coventry Business School, part of Coventry University, and a Certified and Chartered Financial Planner. In her day job she lectures students about Financial Planning and financial services.
To write the book she has joined forces with Jonquil Lowe, senior lecturer in economics and personal finance at the Open University, Patrick Ring, a reader in financial services at Glasgow Caledonian University and Amandeep Sahota, a lecturer in finance at Coventry Business School. Other colleagues at Coventry Business School also helped with the book.
Dr Luu and colleagues are also working on another new book, on Global Pension Challenges, due to be published by Routledge in 2023.
Dr Luu says the new book provides a different perspective on financial services compared to many traditional financial services books.
She said: “Many books about financial services are designed to serve corporate finance education, focusing on capital structures, maximising shareholder value, regulatory compliance and other business-oriented topics.
"A Practical Guide To Financial Services: Knowledge, Opportunities and Inclusion is different; it swings the perspective towards the end-user, the customer, the essential but often overlooked participant without whom retail financial services markets would not exist."
Dr Luu says the book is aimed at financial professionals and provides them with a holistic view of the industry and a “greater understanding” of the consumer perspective on products and services. She believes this is essential in the light of the new duty of care in the UK towards consumers due to come into force from 2023 and an increasing shift in retail regulation towards the protection of vulnerable consumers.
She said the shift to online delivery of financial services has also contributed to a growing risk of financial crimes, particularly scamming, intensifying the need to protect consumers. This risk is covered in the book.
The book also provides insight into the difficulties consumers experience and how financial services firms can effectively manage risks to produce better outcomes for their customers while taking advantage of the opportunities offered by technological changes.
The book is priced at £120 for hardback and £34.99 for Paperback and is available from Amazon and publishers Routledge.
