Clients of more than 40 firms which dealt with investments and pensions look set for compensation after The Financial Services Compensation Scheme declared them in default today.

Consumers could get back the money they have lost from their dealings with a total of 67 failed companies, some of which come from the insurance sector.

When a business is termed as being in default it signals that the FSCS has been satisfied that it is unable to pay claims for compensation made against it. Since its inception, FSCS said it has helped over 4.5m people, paying out more than £26bn in compensation.

FSCS is the UK’s statutory compensation scheme for customers of regulated financial services firms.

Mark Oakes, head of communications at the FSCS said: “The FSCS protects consumers around the UK when authorised financial services firms cease trading. It protects your deposits, investments, home finance and insurance, and it’s free for consumers to use. Our message to anyone who believes that they may be owed money as a result of their dealings with any of these firms is please get in touch, as we may be able to help you.”
