The FCA has cancelled the regulatory permissions of Northern Ireland financial adviser Jim Burton, trading as Jim Burton Insurance Services (FRN 310381).
The Part 4A permissions – which allowed the firm to carry out regulated business - were cancelled on 1 June by the FCA as it judged that the firm was, "carrying on no regulated activity."
The firm was based in Armagh in County Armagh. It was authorised from 14 January 2005 with permission to conduct regulated activities in relation to consumer credit business, designated investment business and insurance distribution.
The FCA Register reveals that the firm was run by Jim Burton, who had worked in the insurance sector since the 1970s, establishing his business in Armagh in 1978.
According to reports, the business was acquired by Northern Ireland insurance broking group Dickson & Co in November 2022 with all nine staff transferring to Dickson.
The regulator said it informed the firm in December 2025 that it may take action to cancel its Part 4 permission unless it responded. It failed to respond and the FCA said it gave the firm a further notice in April that it intended to cancel its permission.
The firm has until 31 May 2027 to appeal against the FCA’s decision.
The FCA has recently cancelled the regulatory permissions of a number of firms.
