Craig presented on EBI's extensive research on rebalancing client portfolios, an area he recognised had no accepted industry-wide 'best practice'. Rebalancing tends to take place at annual client reviews.

However, the dispersion of returns between two clients with very similar portfolios but different rebalancing dates can be significant. EBI's research found calendar-driven rebalancing is sub-optimal and stresses that it's important to consider the data, not the date. EBI's research, was fascinating.
Louis Coke, investment manager at Charles Stanley in Guildford, gave a presentation on 'What works for me'. A big proportion of the Guildford office's business is IFA-driven – Louis noted this works well in terms of dividing responsibilities to clients, allowing each party to concentrate on their investment strengths in providing an overall client solution.
