IFP Corporate Member profile: Association of Investment Companies
When the clock struck midnight on 31 December 2012, the AIC had worked hard to provide training and information to advisers and had trained 800 of them, writes the AIC's Jackie Lockie.
Demand has accelerated since the RDR came into effect, bringing our total number of advisers trained to 1,400, and there is no sign of this abating.
To meet this demand in 2013, we are providing accredited training to advisers in a variety of ways. Our new online training sessions will begin on Thursday 2 May. The new online sessions aim to help advisers build portfolios using investment companies. The sessions include risk and asset allocation, portfolio case studies using investment companies and how to review and monitor client portfolios.
We also intend to refresh the existing 12 online sessions, which follow the 2012 RDR exam FSA/FSP syllabus.

A series of four face-to-face investment training seminars are also taking place in the autumn, with venues in Bristol, London, Scotland and Cheshire.
I will be speaking on investment companies along with Glyn Jones from Vanguard, who will cover ETFs, and Simon Moore from Bestinvest, who will present some practical ideas about when investment company funds might be more suitable than ETFs in client portfolios, and vice versa.
The AIC will also be leading workshops at various third party events throughout 2013, including the Raymond James 2013 Conference on 19 June, where I will be leading a myth-busting session, andIhopetoseemanyofyouat the always excellent IFP Annual Conference in autumn at the Celtic Manor in Newport, Wales.
In addition, the AIC provides bespoke training for firms with an interest in training all of their advisers.
