Northern Home Counties branch learn about elderly care
For their February meeting, Northern Home Counties branch members played host to two very different speakers creating much interest and excitement, reports Chris Bowmer CFPCM.
The first speaker was Angela Sherman of Care to be Different, who is passionate about the care we provide to the elderly. In her experience, the system is flawed and probably broken. She revealed information that was both challenging and surprising to her audience confirming that in law healthcare and nursing care is free and that it is only social care that is paid for. The challenge is that the NHS do not want to pay, if they can avoid it, and it is in the interests of the local authority to get you to pay.
By the end of her talk the whole audience could think of someone that this impacts now,or could do soon, and how we, as planners, could make a difference.

Lawrence Cook of Thesis then provided an engaging and interesting presentation about the use of SPIN, not in the political sense but as propounded by Neil Rackham, the professor of professional selling.
Strategies for key listening and questioning, patience and identification of client needs could allow us all to be more effective if we consider what we do now and make it better each and every time.
Overall a highly satisfying and engaging meeting giving every attendee some strategies and things to think about.
