Longest serving fund managers revealed as 35 years tops list
The longest serving fund manager is in his 35th year in the role, a newly revealed list of veterans in the sector has revealed.
The Association of Investment Companies has published the list of its most experienced members and also revealed that 49% of investment companies have had at least one manager at the helm for 10 years or more.
Topping the list of longest serving managers amongst AIC members is Peter Spiller, who is in his 35th year managing Capital Gearing (Flexible Investment).
See table below
He is followed by Simon Knott, who has managed Rights and Issues (UK Smaller Companies) for 32 years, whilst Matthew Oakeshott and Angela Lascelles have each managed Value & Income (UK Equity Income) for 30 years.
Whilst stepping down as lead manager in 2014, Mark Mobius continues to act as a manager on Templeton Emerging Markets (Global Emerging Markets) 27 years on - a company incorporated in the UK 27 years ago.
Robert Siddles has managed Jupiter US Smaller Companies for the last 15 years, but only the last two and a half years have been with Jupiter. The board of the investment company followed him to his new employer when he left his previous management group.
Annabel Brodie-Smith, AIC communications director, said: “Whilst there are few ‘jobs for life’ these days, and managers can and do move on for a multitude of reasons, it is heartening to see a significant number of investment company managers have weathered the ups and downs of the stock market. Following the referendum, in the current volatile market conditions, it’s particularly reassuring to have an experienced manager looking after your company.”
