Planner Casebook: Helping a HNW client with £10m windfall
Robin Melley, Chartered Financial Planner and founder of Matrix Capital in Shropshire, shares how he helped a retiring CEO with a £10m windfall in the latest edition of Financial Planning Today magazine.
Mr Melley’s client had recently retired from his role as successful and well paid CEO of a large international group of companies.
He and his wife first approached Mr Melley for advice triggered by the sale of a business he was employed in as a non-executive director. He had unexpectedly received around £10m for the sale of his shareholding in the firm.
Mr Melley discusses how estate planning and inheritance tax mitigation are almost always an important consideration for HNW clients, but the use of non-contentious holistic planning should always also be considered as part of the solution.
He also discusses how a collaborative approach with other suitably qualified professional advisers invariably achieves much better outcomes.
Robin Melley is founder and managing director of Matrix Capital in Shropshire. He is dually-qualified as a Chartered Financial Planner and as a STEP Trust and Estate Practitioner. He has received many accolades and is the only Financial Planner in the UK to have been twice awarded the Chartered Financial Planner of the Year Award. He is also a director of the Consumer Duty Alliance and co-founder of the Financial Vulnerability Taskforce.
