Vanguard to pay vaccinated workers $1,000 bonus
Fund manager Vanguard has offered to pay its 16,500 US workers $1,000 each to get the Coronavirus vaccine.
A spokesperson for the fund manager in the UK told Financial Planning Today that there are no plans to extend the incentive to UK workers.
The spokesperson added “while we strongly encourage staff to get a vaccine in the UK, we are not mandating it”.
US workers will still qualify for the $1000 if they were inoculated before the company made its offer yesterday, but must have received the vaccine by October.
With Coronavirus infections surging in the US, Vanguard said it believes vaccines are the best way to stop the spread of the virus, and it strongly encourages staff to be vaccinated.
Vanguard said its $1,000 incentive recognises workers who have “taken the time to protect themselves, each other, and our communities by being vaccinated”.
It is not the only US asset manager taking a strong stand on vaccinations.
Blackrock has forbidden unvaccinated employees from entering its US offices since they began to reopen under a hybrid working plan last month. Since June all Blackrock employees have been required to report their vaccination status. Blackrock changed its policy after receiving feedback from employees who said they would feel better about returning to work if their colleagues in the office were vaccinated.
