Allum hails "passionate" people at first Paraplanner Powwow
Richard Allum, organiser of the first ever Paraplanner Powwow, says the event yesterday was successful because of the "talented and passionate" people who took part.
Billed as the first ever Paraplanner Powwow, the event took place in fields in Northamptonshire under giant teepees.
Some 70 Paraplanners attended plus speakers and other technical experts. In all, nearly 100 people were involved. Getting into the spirit of the event some delegates donned facepaint to add to the native American theme of the gathering.
Billed as an 'unconference' delegates built their own agenda and met in an informal atmosphere.
Mr Allum said: "The first Paraplanners' Powwow was a lively and spirited gathering that illustrated that the Paraplanning community isn't short of talented and passionate people who are committed not just to Paraplanning but to ever improving knowledge and expertise for the wellbeing of advisers clients."
Mr Allum said a decision on whether to hold the event next year would be taken later after feedback and demand from participants was assessed.

He said: "We want to hear back from people to see if there's a thirst for another one."
Meanwhile, other Powwow-style events are already being planned including 'Powwow Up North' - a regional event taking place in Leeds on 15 October.
At the first Paraplanner Powwow delegates and non-delegates were able to follow progress on Twitter through the official Twitter feed @ParaPowwow.
The Powwow brought together Paraplanners from all over the country to discuss shared issues and to share knowledge. Due to demand, event capacity was increased from 60 to 70 and all spaces sold out.
Richard Allum is founder of outsourced Paraplanning company The Paraplanners and a board member of the Institute of Financial Planning.
He explained that the Powwow was about Paraplanners designing and delivering their own day by choosing the date, location, topics and even the music.

Following suggestions from delegates, topics will include due diligence, report writing, clean share classes, cashflow modelling, technology and platforms.
Speakers included Mark Polson from the langcat and Emma Napier from The Platforum. The main session was a 60-minute plenary with Chatham House rules applied for Paraplanners to share issues and problems covering the Paraplanning sector.
There was also be a 'campfire session' with L&G. Delegates also suggested 'show and tell' sessions on software and technology usage. AXA Elevate also took part.
