The CISI has appointed four new board members including executives from Brewin Dolphin, Barclays Wealth and Rathbone.

Three of the four were elected by members and one is a new independent non-executive director.

The new independent non-executive director is Jane Valls who has a distinguished background in corporate governance, women’s empowerment and social justice.

The four new directors are:

Jane Valls (independent NED). She is an accredited corporate governance trainer with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, and is an accredited trainer with the Ethics Institute, as well as being a Certified Ethics Officer. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree by the University of Middlesex for services to business, women’s empowerment and social justice.

Robert Hughes-Penney, Chartered FCSI, investment director of Rathbone Brothers, a CISI Chartered Fellow and a Chartered Wealth Manager with over 27 years’ experience managing portfolios for wealthy private clients, trusts, pensions and charities.

• The CISI has also awarded four Honorary Fellowships to leading professional figures.

The four new Honorary Fellows are: Dame Elizabeth Corley DBE, FCSI(Hon), Jane Fuller FCSI(Hon), Marcus Johnson FCSI(Hon), William Macdonald FCSI(Hon).

Jane Fuller is co-director of the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation and a former Financial Times journalist. She continues to train FT journalists and is visiting professor at City, University of London, and a fellow of the CFA Society of the UK. 

William Macdonald is managing director of his own compliance consultancy, Craigcrook Management Services.  He was founder member of the CISI Compliance Forum and is currently a member of the Examinations Board.

Marcus Johnson is deputy chairman of Kirly Group (formerly NW Brown) and is a long-standing member of the CISI since 1997, serving as President of the East Anglia Branch for 14 years.  He is currently a member of the CISI Examinations Board and the Wealth Exam Panel.

Dame Elizabeth Corley is chair of the Impact Investing Institute and non-executive director of Pearson, BAE Systems and Morgan Stanley Inc.  She was formerly CEO/vice chair of Allianz Global Investors from 2005 to 2019 and prior to that with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, Coopers & Lybrand and Sun Alliance.

The professional body, which provides the Certified Financial Planner designation in the UK, said the Fellowships are awarded to those who have made a “significant positive contribution, both to the financial services profession and to the CISI.”
