Financial Planner backs financial lessons for school kids
Essex-based Cervello Financial Planning has sponsored a classroom of youngsters to receive a financial education course.
The programme, which is administered through the London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF), is primarily online but includes regular classroom time at Sanders School in Hornchurch.
Chris Daems, director of Cervello, recently visited a class at the secondary school to answer questions and discuss several topics with the students including financial risk, inflation, diversification and scams.
Mr Daems said he believes that “empowering young people” with the right knowledge and skills will help them make better financial choices.
He said: “We believe that young people massively benefit from financial education.”
He added: “That's why we're so pleased to support, in partnership with the LIBF and Sanders, the continued financial education of children.”
Teacher Joanne Lillis, from Sanders School, said: “We firmly believe that our students need to develop their financial literacy if they are to participate effectively in our modern society.
“Children are growing up in an increasingly complex world and will eventually need to take charge of their own financial future.
“We know poor financial decisions can have a long-lasting impact on individuals, their families and society therefore I believe that financial education can and will make a difference.”
She added: “As a school we already deliver financial education to our GCSE students, however, when Chris Daems approached us to offer sponsorship of this programme to our younger students we jumped at the chance to work with him and his company.
“The students have thoroughly enjoyed interacting with Chris and learning from him.
“This programme is empowering and equipping them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to become financially responsible adults.”
