Planner inspired by blind friend to do 'ridiculous' challenge
A Financial Planner will walk the equivalent of two-and-a-half marathons in a single day, inspired by a friend who suffers from blindness.
Chris Daems, director of Cervello Financial Planning, aims to raise £1,500 for the Guide Dogs charity through an epic 60 mile journey through Yorkshire.
He described it as a “frankly ridiculous challenge” but for a cause he knows is worthwhile.
He said: “One of my oldest friends is blind. He has been losing his sight over the last thirty years. He got his guide dog earlier this year.
“I thought I would raise some money for him because of what he is going through at the minute and to support the fantastic work Guide Dogs do supporting thousands of blind and partially sighted people across the UK. Lots of people have guide dogs and it lets them live a normal life.”
The challenge is set to take place at the end of June and Mr Daems has undertaken a vigorous training to prepare.
He said: “Over the weekend, I got up to about 30 miles, which is half way, as the challenge is to walk 60 miles in a day. If, I wasn’t slightly intimidated by it, then I would be more worried then I am about it now. I’m going out this weekend to do some more training, so hopefully I’ll get closer to the 60 mile figure.”
The co-founder of AE in a Box hopes for some help from the Financial Planning community to reach his fundraising goal.
He said: “Across the walk, I will be wearing a couple of shirts and companies can get their name on the front of it, providing they sponsor me for a certain amount.”
