Financial Planner’s staff boost children's charity with Bake-Off day
Charity-minded staff at Stockport-based Chartered Financial Planners Prest got the mixing bowls out to organise a Great British Bake Off-inspired event in aid of a children’s charity.
The ‘bake-off’ was the latest in a series of fundraising activities organised by Prest over the last 12 months which have raised a total of £1,400 for the Cheshire-based children’s charity Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, a registered charity that provides holidays and activities for terminally ill, chronically sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.
The Great Prest Bake Off last week included a competition judged by staff on presentation, taste and “moreishness”, followed by a bake sale.
The winner was Beth Torkington from the Financial Planning support department, whose Victoria Sponge also topped the “presentation” category.
Director Jan Robinson came second with a batch of sausage rolls, which also won the “moreishness” category. Financial Planner Mike Walker’s fruit tarts, which scored top marks for “taste”, tied with Paraplanner Lianne Marsh’s mini pork pies for third place overall.
Mike Walker said, “With the Great British Bake Off back on our screens and everybody’s summer holiday beach body diets receding into distant memory, the Great Prest Bake Off has become a firm fixture on our annual calendar. The quality this year was very high so I’m really pleased my fruit tarts held their own in what was a very competitive field.
“On a serious note, though, we are great supporters of the inspiring work done by the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust to provide fabulous holidays for children with disabilities or life-limiting conditions. The Bake Off, like the other fundraising activities we have carried out in aid of the Adventure Farm, is great fun but it also has a real purpose behind it.”
Other recent activities carried out by Prest for the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust include participation in the charity’s annual golf day in May and, in August, entering a team for its “It’s a Knockout” competition. In the latter event the Prest team came fourth out of a field of 10.
Prest Financial Planning was founded in 1961 by James Prest, the father of the current chief executive Graham Prest. It is based in Hazel Grove, Stockport, and advises local individuals and families on investments and assets totalling more than £350 million.
