Financial Planners to play 16 consecutive hours of golf
Financial Planners will try to channel their inner Rory McIlroy when they take to the course for a marathon 16 consecutive hours of golf.
Planners from Navigator Financial Planning are hoping to whip up a fervour akin to the crowds at the famous Augusta Masters when they compete at the Longest Day Challenge at Kilkeel Golf Club on 6 June.
The Accredited Financial Planning firm aims to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Six players from the company based in Northern Ireland, home nation of top golfer McIlroy, will tee off at 5am before completing four rounds of the championship course that same day.
Financial Planner John Sloan, who came up with the idea, said: “We’d all really love to see a few people cheering us on as we play the 18th hole – almost like we were about to win the Masters!”
The challenge will involve competitors walking about 20 miles on the 18-hole course, which was designed by legendary golf architect, Eddie Hackett.
Mr Sloan said: “We have a great team here at Navigator and initially, I felt this would be a great way to play some golf whilst raising some much needed funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
“We all have or know of someone who has suffered from the terrible effects of cancer and if our playing golf for 16 hours can raise some money to help in some small way then it will be a day well spent.”
Financial Planner Dale Fitzpatrick and operation manager Frank Nolan will also take part. The trio will be given a helping hand by three other associates of the company.
Navigator has raised £1,500 so far.
Mr Sloan said: “We have been pretty chuffed with the response to our request for sponsorship so far, considering we still have some time until 6 June. The company has really stepped up as well. We’re pretty confident of reaching our target but we really want to smash it!”
