Financial Planning ‘dream team’ unveil student guide
Three Financial Planners and a senior university lecturer have joined forces to pen a personal finance book for students and young people.
The quartet, announcing the launch this morning as being from a “dream team of Financial Planning experts”, have co-written Essential Personal Finance: A practical guide for students.
It is aimed at students studying personal finance subjects at university and young people seeking practical understanding.
The book’s authors are: Lien Luu, Certified Financial Planner and Associate Head of School (Enterprise & Commercial) at Coventry Business School; Jonquil Lowe, Senior Lecturer in Economics and Personal Finance at The Open University; Jason Butler, Certified & Chartered Financial Planner and financial services entrepreneur; and Tony Byrne, Certified & Chartered Financial Planner and Managing Director of Wealth & Tax Management Limited.
The authors said that low levels of financial knowledge and understanding across multiple countries, as shown in OECD research in 2016, there was a clear need for such a book.
Mr Butler said: “I wish I’d had a book like this when I was young. It represents a treasure trove of personal finance insights, research, knowledge and wisdom from around the world.”
Ms Lowe said: “To achieve their goals, young people need an understanding of financial services markets, government policies and their own behavioural biases.”
Steve Leonard of The University of West Scotland commended the book as “impressive in both the range and depth”, saying: “It is unusual to find a book that attempts to provide both academic and practical perspectives, and yet can still manage to be accessible to those with limited or no expert knowledge.”
M. Shahid Nawaz of Glasgow Caledonian University lent his support, saying he recommended the book to his students because it is “an essential textbook on personal finance, dealing with the discipline in an innovative way. The style is lively and pithy.”
