Global CFP body FPSB appoints new chairman for 2018
The FPSB, the global body for setting Certified Financial Planner standards, has elected Cary List CFP, President and CEO of Canada’s Financial Planning professional body, to serve as FPSB Council chairperson in 2018.
The FPSB Council is a forum for FPSB member organisations from around the world, including the CISI in the UK. It seeks to seek to build awareness of the CFP marks and the profession of Financial Planning. There are more than 160,000 Certified Financial Planners around the world including about 1,000 in the UK.
The FPSB Council acts as an advisory and consultative body to FPSB’s board of directors and is made up of delegates from each of FPSB’s member organisations globally. The election took place at the Financial Planning Standards Board’s half yearly meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, last month.
Mr List said: “The financial services industry worldwide is facing its most disruptive time in history, With the advent of fintech and higher regulatory standards for advice, this creates tremendous opportunity for CFP certification and the FPSB network to solidify their place as the global leaders in serving consumers worldwide with ethical, relevant advice to help them enhance their financial health.
“My goal in 2018 is that the FPSB network continues to enhance its work as a strong collective voice in being a trusted resource for government, regulators and consumers alike.”
FPSB chief executive Noel Maye said: “Cary has been actively involved in shaping the global future of the Financial Planning profession since FPSB’s inception.
“As the leader of FPSB’s fourth-largest member organisation, Cary will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the FPSB network and will be an excellent resource for those who are establishing the CFP certification programme in other territories throughout the world. We look forward to Cary’s insight and leadership in 2018.”
Mr. List’s term as FPSB Council chairperson begins on 1 January.
