IFP corporate member profile: Nucleus
As well as being an award winning wrap platform, Nucleus also operates as a hub for best practice and information sharing.
We facilitate a number of discussion groups that enable Financial Planners and advisers to share common issues and ways of developing their businesses.
Through these groups our advisers have told us that one of the key challenges they face in the wake of the Retail Distribution Review is recruiting new people. 73 per cent of Nucleus advisers who recruited over the last year found the process 'difficult' or 'extremely difficult'.
Perhaps it's a big issue for you too?
Recruiting for any small business can be expensive and time
consuming. The negative effects of a 'bad' hire can go beyond cost and time spent and can even risk damaging the business's reputation and staff morale. According to a survey by CareerBuilder for example, last year 60 per cent of employers reported a bad hire.
Stephen Tucker of The Fry Group says: "Recruitment is a real headache. You're exposing your firm's reputation, your hard earned cash and a great deal of time getting the right people. I don't think there's an easy way of doing it."
Yet it's critical that you get people who are not only appropriately skilled, but who also fit the culture of your business if you want to move forward. So how do you do it?
While there's no easy solution to the issue of recruitment, there are ways to avoid the pitfalls. We've produced a white paper in conjunction with Nucleus advisers to support you when recruiting new people.

The white paper identifies a structured approach to recruitment and guides you step-by-step throughout the process, from getting started to choosing the right recruitment method. It will also help you create the job advert, select the right CVs, prepare for the interview and it will support you with the induction process and probationary period. We've also put together a collection of questions that we hope will help you get the most out of the interview process and the best people for your business.
