Leeds branch picks VAT as a topical issue at Brook Dobson's last meeting
When in Autumn 2011 he originally included VAT as the topic for the Leeds branch October 2012 meeting thinking it might make an interesting topic, chairman Andrew Brook Dobson CFPCM had little idea of the developments that were to occur during the year.
As Andrew reports here, this was to be an excellent branch meeting, enjoyed by all, valued by many and with lots for everyone to takeaway.
"Ian Fuzzard, the VAT specialist from Sagars, one of Leeds' leading accountancy firms led the discussion. Thankfully his dry sense of humour relieved any potential boredom from what could have been rather dry subject matter. Alistair MacDougall from AXA Wealth's business consultancy team (Professional Edge) also contributed extremely valuable insight and perspective.
"Members came from a wide variety of perspectives with some registered for VAT, some not and even one that had been and who now isn't!
"Having sat in a number of meetings discussing VAT & Financial Planning, it seemed that the consensus this time wasn't to wear the expert down until they got the answer they wanted (that is, that there was no need to register for or charge VAT).

There was a genuine interest in the discourse, in the desire to learn, to understand the rules and parameters and how they pertain to each individual business. There was an explanation of HMRC's Spring guidance as well as the implication of recent legal precedents (thank you Jason).
"Thanks to everyone for their contributions and "Viva La Leeds Branch." This was my last meeting as Chairman, I've really enjoyed leading the branch over the last four years and look forward to supporting Murray McEwan CFPCM as he takes over the role. Many thanks all for the card and book, it was very kind of you!"
Nick Cann of the IFP said: "I'd like to add my thanks to Andy for such excellent work as Leeds' branch chairman this past few years.
"However, I'm glad to say that his support for IFP and of Financial Planning continues through his role as an IFP board director. We look forward to Murray McEwan and welcome him to the role for 2013 and and look forward to the branch continuing to thrive under his stewardship."
