7IM's Urquhart Stewart: More should consider Financial Planning
Justin Urquhart Stewart, founder of Seven Investment Management, believes financial services should be given higher status compared to accountants and solicitors.
Mr Urquhart-Stewart gave a speech titled 'The future is bright-The future is planning' and said Financial Planners had far greater client communication than accountants or solicitors.
This meant, by speaking with clients on a regular basis, clients trusted their adviser more and were more likely to stay with them for a longer period of time.
Mr Urquhart Stewart said Financial Planners were "providing a better service at a better price" than other industries.
Previously, financial services was regarded at a lower status but new ideas in the industry would also see more graduates keen to consider Financial Planning as a career as opposed to the traditional law and banking sectors. Seven IM also sponsors the University Team Challenge Cup which is a competition for university students studying financial services and Mr Urquhart Stewart said he was pleased to see more universities signing up and offering Financial Planning courses or modules.
He gave Financial Planners the titles "guardian of intergenerational wealth" and said the profession could be similar to family offices. This would see Financial Planners and Paraplanners dealing with parents, children, grandparents in the family and also liasing with solicitors, accountants, bankers for them.
He also looked at technology, regulation as well as coverage of the global economy and reassured delegates that although the UK was "damaged", it was not in a debt crisis.
Seven Investment Management is an IFP corporate member and sponsor of the Paraplanner conference.
The Paraplanner conference is being held at the Chesford Grange Hotel in Warwick and attended by 125 delegates.
Financial Planner will be covering the conference and will be live-tweeting via @FPM_Online and covering key speakers on financialplanneronline.co.uk. All coverage will be available on our news pages and in the dedicated Paraplanning section of the website.
