Seven cyclists from IFP corporate member complete 459 mile feat
A team of cyclists from Nucleus have managed to complete a 459-mile charity bike ride from London to Edinburgh.
James Thom, Natalie Docherty, Paul Dewar, Mark Brown, Bruce Davidson and Derek Russell, all staff at Nucleus, an IFP corporate member, achieved the feat.
Steve James from Finance Shop was also on the team, while Nucleus’ Lesley Campbell and Stephen Rodger helped out as the support crew.
They made their way back to Edinburgh yesterday evening. The effort was all in aid of a charity - the Joshua Nolan Foundation, with a target to reach £3,500 through sponsorship. The team managed to beat this and reached nearly £6,000.
Vicky Smith, business analyst at Nucleus, who captured the team's celebrations at the finish line with these pictures on Twitter, said: “Team #CycleForJosh you're my HEROES! Cycled from London to Edinburgh & they're all still smiling. Amazing!”
Jon Gwinnett , Pensions technical manager at Nucleus, said on Twitter: “Cannot be prouder of the @nucleuswrap #CycleForJosh team, who have raised nearly £6,000.”
The longest stretch of the route was on the second leg on Saturday, covering 109 miles between Stamford and Castleford.
The charity was founded in 2014 by Laura Nolan after her son took his own life the previous year. It has the aim to reduce suicide rates, especially among those between 15 and 25.
The foundation, which cited statistics showing UK-wide suicide is the biggest killer of men between 20 and 49, ahead of cancer and heart disease, focuses on awareness, education and support.
The foundation has run workshops in schools and provides funding for counselling. It is Nucleus’ charity partner for 2015.
